Which external flash is actually best for the R50, the Godox V1 or the Canon EL-100? Im leaning towards the Godox because of the round head and better battery life but it looks kinda huge on such a small camera body and I dont want it to be super top heavy while Im shooting. On the other hand the EL-100 is way cheaper and fits the size better but I'm worried it wont have enough power for the indoor reception I have to shoot for my sisters engagement party in two weeks. My budget is strictly under $250 and I need to buy something by Tuesday so it arrives in time. Which one handles better for a total beginner?

The Godox V1-C Round Head Flash for Canon is definitely heavy on an R50 but the power is worth it. For an indoor reception, the Canon Speedlite EL-100 might struggle if ceilings are high.

  • Godox V1: Great battery and fast recycling, but very top-heavy.
  • Canon EL-100: Tiny and fits well, but lacks power for big events. Ngl the V1 is way more future-proof even if it looks kinda silly.

Over the years Ive tried many setups and the Canon Speedlite EL-10 Flash is the perfect middle ground for the R50.

  • bounce off ceilings
  • use lithium AAs Itll save your wrists.

Totally agree about the weight! I tried a huge flash on my small body once and it was a total nightmare for my wrists. You should look at the Godox V350C TTL Li-ion Flash for Canon instead. I love it! Its way smaller but still uses that amazing rechargeable battery so you wont be hunting for AAs mid-party. Honestly handles those indoor bounce shots like a pro without making the R50 feel super clunky... it is fantastic!
