What's the best vertical grip for the R5 Mark II that isn't the overpriced official one? I'm honestly so frustrated trying to figure this out. I looked at the Canon BG-R20 but $500 is insane and I'm seeing conflicting reports about whether the older R5 grips even fit properly because of the new vent design. I have a big wedding shoot in Chicago next Friday and I really need the extra juice and vertical shutter. I've used Neewer in the past but I don't want to risk it if the fitment is off on this specific Mark II body. Has anyone found a reliable third-party option that actually works or am I just stuck...

I agree with the points about the vent blockage. The Canon BG-R10 Battery Grip fits the mount, sure, but the R5 Mark II needs that specific airflow. Using a generic grip might lead to thermal issues during your Chicago shoot. If you cant find a verified third-party version, the official Canon BG-R20 Battery Grip is honestly the only way to guarantee cooling performance.
