So I just got this Canon Rebel T7 like a week ago because I'm supposed to take photos at my sisters wedding in June. The problem is the venue is super dark and the little flash that pops out of the camera makes everyone look really washed out and spooky. I've been trying to look for a better one but people are talking about some pin thing being missing on the T7 and now I'm just totally lost.
I don't want to spend more than $100 or $150 since I'm just starting out and honestly have no idea what I'm doing. Is there a specific flash that just works without me having to be a pro to set it up? Or am I better off just not using one at all...
> Is there a specific flash that just works... Ive been really satisfied using the Godox TT350C Mini Flash for budget setups since the HSS and TTL data works flawlessly on that T7 shoe. How large is the reception hall tho?
Yeah that missing center pin on the T7 is a massive headache. Canon removed the universal trigger point. It sucks. Now you need specific flashes that talk to the camera through the side pins instead. If you want to stay under $150, these are your best bets:
Unfortunately, Canon really made life difficult for T7 owners with that missing center pin. I learned this the hard way at a cousins birthday party when my old reliable flashes just wouldnt fire. It was so embarrassing and honestly just a huge letdown for a beginner camera. Like someone mentioned, that compatibility thing is a nightmare. If youre on a strict budget, you might check out the Yongnuo YN568EX III for Canon. It is usually under $100. They eventually updated the firmware to work with the T7 shoe specifically. It is not as fancy as the pro stuff and the build quality feels a bit plastic-y, but it has TTL which you definitely need for a wedding so you arent guessing power settings while people are dancing. Another path is grabbing a used Canon Speedlite 430EX II on the second-hand market. Its older and the menu system is kinda clunky compared to Godox, but it is reliable and will actually fire on your camera. TL;DR: Avoid generic brands because of the pin issue. The Yongnuo YN568EX III for Canon is probably your best cheap bet for the wedding.
