So I finally picked up a Rebel T7 and I am seriously so excited to get into some night photography! I want to try doing those long exposure shots of the stars but obviously I cant just press the button by hand or it'll be a blurry mess. I spent like three hours last night looking at options and my head is kinda spinning lol.
I saw the official Canon RS-60E3 cable but then I was thinking maybe I should go wireless? My logic was that a remote would be easier but I'm getting conflicting info online about what actually works with this specific model. I read on one forum that the T7 doesn't even have an infrared port for the RC-6 remote which seems weird for a modern camera? Then I tried the Camera Connect app on my phone and it worked for like two minutes before it just dropped the connection and I couldn't get it back.
I have a big trip to the coast planned for next Tuesday so I'm on a bit of a timeline to get this sorted. I found some cheap off-brand ones on Amazon for like $10 that look okay but I'm worried they might fry the port or something. I'm really trying to figure out:
Is it better to just buy the official cable or is there a specific wireless one that actually connects via the side port? I've only got about $25 left in my gear budget for this month...
Actually, you're right about the T7 lacking an infrared port, so skip those remotes. I have always found wired options much more reliable for long exposures since they wont drop the connection like the app does. It works every time.
I've been shooting with Canon Rebels for years and honestly, that app is a total nightmare for long exposures. Since you're on a budget and need it by Tuesday, you should definitely check out some third-party options on Amazon. I've tried many and they wont fry your port, dont worry.
Bookmarked, thanks!
