Does anyone have a good recommendation for a remote shutter release for the Canon 90D? Im finally heading out to Joshua Tree next weekend to try some star trails and im so pumped to see what this camera can do at night! I looked at the official Canon RS-60E3 but people keep saying the cord is super short and annoying to use in the field. I also saw the wireless BR-E1 bluetooth one but I read some horror stories about it dropping the connection during long bulb exposures which would totally ruin my night. My budget is like $40 or $50 since I just dropped way too much on a new tripod. Should I just get a cheap third party one or is there a specific brand that actually works for 5 minute shots...
You definitely need the Pixel TW-283 DC2 Wireless Remote Shutter Release. It is honestly fantastic for star trails! I have used this setup for years and the 2.4GHz signal is way more reliable than Bluetooth for long exposures. Just set your 90D to bulb mode and program the intervalometer on the remote. It works perfectly every single time! Have a blast in Joshua Tree!
Late to the party but I'd be cautious with wireless for those 5-minute shots. Last time I tried a bluetooth one, it glitched out during a cold shoot and basically ruined my night. I would suggest the Neewer LCD Timer Shutter Release Remote Control for Canon E3 Connector instead. It's wired so no signal drops and it's way cheaper. Just make sure to bring extra AAA batteries tho. TL;DR: Wired is way more reliable for bulb mode.
Big if true
Just wanted to say thanks for everyone chiming in. Super helpful discussion.
