Ive got a big family wedding coming up next month and I am so hyped to finally use my 90D for it! I looked at the Godox V1 but then I read that the Canon 430EX III-RT might be better for the 80D/90D hotshoe pins specifically. Which one should I actually go with?

Honestly id be a bit careful with the Godox. While the Godox V1-C Round Head Li-ion Flash is fast, ive seen weird sync issues on the 90D. If you want peace of mind for a wedding, the Canon Speedlite 430EX III-RT TTL Flash is more reliable with those specific pins. It just works every time tho youll need AAs. I would suggest the Canon for this... better safe than sorry!

I once missed a bouquet toss because of recycle time lag. Be careful tho... maybe look at the Canon Speedlite 600EX II-RT Flash for its 0.1s recovery and 60m guide number.

Building on the earlier suggestion, the 90D is definitely pickier than the old 80D was regarding those hotshoe pins. Unfortunately, I've had issues with the Godox system lately where it just randomly stops communicating mid-shoot, which is honestly not as good as expected given all the hype. If you want reliability for a wedding without spending a fortune, you should check out these instead:

  • Yongnuo YN600EX-RT II for Canon
  • Basically a much cheaper clone of the Canon flagship that still uses the RT radio system.
  • Westcott FJ80 II Speedlight for Canon
  • The mount feels way more secure than Godox and the menu is way faster to use. You should definitely look at the compatibility charts on FlashHavoc or the DPReview forums before buying anything. I've found those resources much more honest than the marketing specs. Seriously tho, dont risk it with the V1 if you're already hearing about pin issues... nothing worse than a black frame right when the cake is being cut.
