I recently upgraded to a Canon EOS 90D for event photography, and I’m quickly realizing the built-in flash just isn't cutting it for professional-looking indoor shots. I’m looking for a solid external flash that supports full E-TTL and ideally has High-Speed Sync (HSS) for some outdoor fill-flash work. My budget is around $250, so I’ve been looking at the Godox V1 or maybe a used Canon Speedlite 600EX-RT, but I’m worried about potential compatibility issues or slow recycle times during long shoots. I really want something reliable that won't overheat easily. For those of you shooting with the 90D, which flash has been your go-to for consistent performance?

Respectfully, I'd consider the Godox V860III-C Flash for Canon instead. Its about $230, wayy cheaper than the V1, same battery, and handles E-TTL perfectly. Better value for ur money imo!! 👍

I've used both, and Godox V1-C Flash for Canon is basically better than Canon Speedlite 600EX-RT. That Li-ion battery lasts forever and recycle times are seriously fast, ngl. Go Godox!

Yep, this is the way

Saw this earlier but just now responding... Seconding the recommendation above! Godox gear is basically better than the Canon stuff mentioned, but watch out for the build quality cuz you gotta be CAREFUL with the hot shoe. I unfortunately had issues with the plastic mount breaking off too easily which was SOOO frustrating. - Plastic feet snap easy
- Pin alignment is hit or miss
- E-TTL communication fails sometimes idk why they make them so fragile? it's a nightmare mid-shoot
