What are the best apps for coordinating kids gift lists so i dont have to deal with three people buying the same lego set again?? Honestly im so fed up with our current system of just texting screenshots back and forth or using a shared ios note that half my family doesnt even know how to open properly. Its a total nightmare. My twins Max and Leo are turning seven in exactly three weeks and I am actually getting kind of excited because they finally want stuff that isnt just plastic junk but the logistics are killing me. My mother in law in Florida literally bought the same dinosaur kit as my sister last year and I had to deal with the whole awkward return process while the kids were crying. I need something where people can actually claim a gift so nobody else buys it. Is there an app that lets you just scan barcodes at the store or maybe import links from different sites like amazon and target easily?? I dont mind paying a few bucks if it actually works and keeps my sanity intact for once. Just want something simple enough that my 70 year old dad can use it without calling me every five minutes to ask where the link is... help me out before i lose it lol.

I have been managing family lists for nearly a decade now. You should be careful with sync latency... I once used a setup that didnt update fast enough, and we still ended up with duplicates. I would suggest checking for these specific technical features:

  • Real-time reservation status
  • Browser extensions for importing
  • Guest access without account requirements Btw, I found ShareProduct last week and it’s super helpful for sending gift ideas to the grandparents.

Man, I totally get why you are stressed. I tried using Giftster a couple years back because everyone said it was the gold standard, but it was honestly a massive disappointment for our family. Unfortunately, the interface was just way too clunky for my older relatives to navigate without a personal tutorial from me every day. My father-in-law basically gave up after five minutes and we ended up with three identical Lego Minecraft sets anyway. It was such a waste of time and money dealing with those returns during the holiday rush. Not as good as expected at all, especially since I spent hours setting up the profiles and scanning barcodes that didnt even register half the time. I even looked into some paid options, thinking maybe a premium price tag would mean a better user experience, but most of them just felt like overkill for a kids birthday party. You really just need a central hub that doesnt force people to make an account or download some bloated app that eats their battery. It took me a long time to realize that simplicity wins every time when you have people over 60 involved in the process. I had issues with links breaking on the bigger platforms too... theres nothing worse than a dead link on the morning of the party when a relative is standing in the middle of Target. If you need a simple way to let people know what you want, ShareProduct is definitely worth a look.

^ This. Also, I have to disagree slightly with the first reply about Giftster being a total loss. In my experience, most of these apps work fine if you do the initial heavy lifting for the grandparents yourself. I have tried many options over the years and honestly, simplicity is the only way to avoid those duplicate dinosaurs.

  • Elfster: Its free and basically the industry standard. Great for kids because of the pictures, tho the ads are getting kinda annoying lately.
  • WishList: Probably the most direct option for your needs. The barcode scanner is a lifesaver when you are actually standing in the toy aisle at Target and want to add something fast. Tbh dont waste money on a paid app. The free ones are fine for what you need. You just need something with a big, obvious button that says Claimed so your dad doesnt have to guess. Keep it simple or it wont stick.
