So I’ve been shooting with my 90D for like two years now mostly for wildlife photography and it’s been great but I just got asked to film some behind-the-scenes stuff and interviews for a small theatre troupe here in Seattle next month and I am lowkey panicking about the audio. I thought the built-in mic would be fine for just scratch track but it picks up every single tiny movement of the lens and the autofocus hum is driving me crazy even with the USM motor which is supposed to be silent... spoiler alert it’s not.

I tried using this old battery powered mic I had laying around but the floor noise is so loud I can barely hear the actors speaking over the hiss. I've messed with the manual gain settings in the camera menu but I just cant get it to sound clean no matter what I do. I need something that can sit on the cold shoe but maybe also be boomed if I need to? I only have around $200-$250 to spend since I already blew the rest of the budget on lighting and a decent tripod. Does anyone have a solid recommendation for a shotgun mic that plays nice with the 90D's preamps specifically? I'm looking at the Rode VideoMic Pro+ but I dont know if that's overkill or if there’s a better Sennheiser option for this price range?

I have a wedding gig in Chicago in three weeks and my old gear is acting up. I looked into the Canon 600EX II-RT but the price is honestly insane for how old it is.

People keep saying the Godox V1 is the way to go but then I read that the AF assist beam doesn't even work right with DSLRs compared to mirrorless bodies. It's so frustrating trying to get a straight answer. I need something that won't overheat during a long reception and my budget is capped at $300. Is the name brand worth the extra $200 or is there a better mid-range option...

So Ive been shooting weddings here in Seattle for about two years now with my 5D Mark IV and honestly my wrist is starting to kill me by the end of a 10-hour day. Especially when Im using the 70-200mm lens, it just feels so unbalanced. I really need a battery grip for the extra vertical controls and better balance but Im stuck on which one to actually buy because the price gaps are huge.

I did some digging online and obviously the Canon BG-E20 is the official one everyone says is the gold standard but man that price tag is hard to swallow when I just dropped a ton of cash on a new 24-70mm lens last month. Ive seen the Vello and Neewer versions for a fraction of the price and some people swear they are basically the same thing but then I read a few horror stories about the third-party grips causing battery drain issues or not having proper weather sealing. Since I live in Washington Im constantly dealing with mist and light rain so the weather sealing thing is kind of a big deal for me and I dont want to fry my electronics just to save a few bucks.

Does anyone have long-term experience with the cheaper alternatives or is it one of those things where I just have to bite the bullet and buy the name brand for the peace of mind? If you use a third-party one does the joystick feel cheap or laggy compared to the one on the body...

So I've been rocking my 7D Mark II for ages now mostly for birds and local sports stuff and I usually just stick to my old reliable CF cards but they're getting so hard to find lately without spending a fortune. Anyway I tried switching over to just using the SD slot for a soccer game yesterday and the buffer lag was absolutely insane like I was getting the busy signal for like 5-10 seconds after a long burst which never really happened with my compactflash setup. I'm prepping for a big high school track meet next weekend and I really need to get this sorted because I cant afford to miss the finish line shots while the camera is still thinking. I know the 7D2 is kind of picky and I think it only supports UHS-I but then I read somewhere that some of the newer v30 or v60 cards might actually help with the clearing times even if the bus speed is capped. My budget is around 100 or 150 bucks so I dont mind spending a bit for quality but I dont want to waste money on a v90 card if the camera cant even use it.

What are you guys using for high-speed stuff these days that actually keeps up with the 10fps raw bursts? Is there a specific brand or model that seems to play nicer with the dual slot setup because I'm seriously struggling here...

What are the absolute best landscape filters I should be looking at for a Canon 6D Mark II because I am honestly about to give up on this search and just go without them. I am leaving for a trip to the Isle of Skye in literally three weeks and I'm stressing out because I still havent figured out my filter situation. I've been shooting with the 24-105mm f/4L which has a 77mm thread and I just want to get those classic long exposure waterfall shots and clean sunrises without the sky being a blown-out mess.

I have been doing some research and it is just making me more confused. I keep seeing the Lee Filters 100mm system recommended but then I see a ton of people saying the NiSi V7 kits are better because they include the polarizer in the holder. The price difference is driving me crazy though and I cant tell if I am just paying for a brand name. Some forums say the 6D Mark II has some dynamic range issues in the shadows compared to the newer mirrorless stuff so I definitely need Graduated ND filters to balance the exposure but then other people say just bracket the shots and fix it in post-processing.

I really dont want to spend my whole vacation staring at a laptop screen though I want to get it right in the camera. My budget is strictly under $450 for the whole setup. I also looked at some cheaper screw-on kits from companies like Hoya or Tiffen but I am terrified of getting crazy vignetting at 24mm if I try to stack a circular polarizer on top of an ND filter. Is that actually a legitimate problem with this specific lens?

Also is a 10-stop ND too much for a beginner? I read that the Lee Big Stopper has a nasty blue color cast on Canon sensors and that just sounds like another headache I dont have time for. I just need something reliable that wont ruin my image quality or break the bank before I even get on the plane...

I've been shooting with Canon gear for over a decade now and honestly I always took pride in being one of those naked lens purists. I never liked putting extra glass in front of my optics because I was worried about losing that crispness or getting weird ghosting when shooting into the sun but man, I just got back from a weekend trip to Cannon Beach in Oregon and it was a total reality check. The wind was kicking up so much fine sand and salt spray that I was constantly wiping my front element with a microfiber cloth and now I'm panicking that I might have micro-scratched the coating on my 24-105mm f/4L. It is my workhorse lens for my 6D Mark II and I really can't afford to replace it or have the front element serviced right now.

I've always heard that some of these modern digital sensors are super sensitive to internal reflections from flat filters so I'm looking for something that actually maintains the quality of the glass. I know some people swear by B+W or Hoya but there are so many different versions now like the HD3 or the Nano stuff and it's getting kinda confusing. I want something that's easy to clean too—the salt air really made a mess of things last week. My budget is probably around $60 to $80 for a 77mm filter since I don't want to buy the absolute cheapest thing out there but I also don't need a $200 piece of glass just to keep dust off.

I am looking for stuff for my main kit:

Canon 24-105mm f/4L IS II (this is the 77mm one)

Canon 50mm f/1.8 STM

Tamron 70-300mm

Has anyone else with a 6DII noticed a specific brand or line of protective filters that doesn't cause extra flare when you're shooting landscapes or backlit portraits? I'm specifically looking for stuff that doesn't degrade the sharpness of the L-series glass because that's why I bought the 6D Mark II in the first place. I've seen some people talk about the Protector filters versus UV filters—does it actually matter for digital? Just trying to find something that holds up well in windy or coastal environments without ruining my shots...

Does anyone know which external flash actually works with the Canon Rebel T7 since it doesn't have that middle trigger pin? I've been shooting for a few years and usually use my trusty old Speedlites, but I just grabbed a T7 as a cheap backup for a friend's wedding in Seattle next month and realized my current gear won't even fire on this hot shoe. Total oversight on my part not checking the specs first but it's super frustrating that Canon removed the universal pin.

I'm looking for something that supports E-TTL if possible because I won't have time to mess with manual settings during the reception. My budget is around 150 bucks since it's just for a backup body. I've heard maybe the Godox V860II or something from the V1 line works but I'm seeing conflicting stuff online about the firmware updates needed to bypass the pin issue...

Honestly I am so incredibly fed up with this cheap knockoff grip I bought for my 5D Mark IV. I thought I could save a few bucks because the official Canon one is like three hundred dollars which is just highway robbery honestly but man I am regretting it so hard right now. It keeps losing connection with the body mid-shoot and I have to literally unscrew the thing and put it back on just to get the camera to turn back on and see the batteries. It has been doing this Error 20 thing too lately and I am just terrified it is gonna fry my internals or something.

I have a massive three-day wedding gig coming up in downtown Chicago this Friday and I cannot afford for my gear to be glitching out like this while the bride is walking down the aisle. I need something that actually feels solid and wont give me communication errors every twenty minutes. I shoot vertically a lot for portraits so the grip is pretty much non-negotiable for me because my wrist starts killing me after ten hours of shooting without one. Its getting to the point where I am scared to even touch the shutter button on the grip because the whole camera might just shut down.

I have looked at the Vello ones and some other brands on BH but I am so hesitant to buy another third-party one after this nightmare experience. Is the Canon BG-E20 really the only way to go if I want zero issues? Or is there something else that actually locks in tight and has the same weather sealing as the 5D body? I am willing to drop the cash at this point because I am desperate for reliability but I would love to know if anyone has found a mid-range option that isnt total garbage. My budget is around 250 max if I can help it but if I have to go higher for peace of mind I guess I will. Does anyone have a recommendation for a grip that actually works and doesnt feel like cheap plastic or lose connection?
